Caring for your front load washer!

While high-efficiency front load washers are loaded with convenience and energy saving features, they do require some extra care and maintenance.  It is always important to read your owners manual, but I especially recommend this with the HE washers.  The use of HE detergent is critical as they are low sudsing, and highly concentrated.  Using a regular detergent may cause too much sudsing and may in turn confuse the wash cycles causing delays.  Proper rinsing may also be compromised.

Water and residue may build up in the rubber door gasket and soap dispenser, and over a period of time can cause mold or an unpleasant smell.  Here are a few tips to help eliminate and prevent this.  The door gasket can be replaced if you can't remove the mold.

Don't leave a wet load of laundry in the machine over night.  Leave the door ajar to dry the area out.  Always use HE detergents.  Wipe out the gasket periodically.  Use liquid detergents.  Periodically run a white load with warm or hot water to clean out some of the residue.  Try using "Affresh".

I can't stress enough the importance of preventing and eliminating the mold.  It is not only unpleasant but could be a health risk.
